Music Diary, Post Zero (Vol. -90)
Whew! I thought I'd never make it to the end of this retroactive effort to record my #dailysong and #dailylyric (and later #dailyalbum) entries.
Rather anticlimactically, the diary ends not on a full week but on the four days that started on Thursday, April 21, 2022, when I woke up and for some reason decided to start this daily practice. As ever, this almost-week's full playlist is above and here.
LYRICS: Bob Dylan, "If You Her, Say Hello"
SONG: The song that answers the question: What if Stevie Wonder were from Brazil?
LYRICS: Shelley Plimpton (Rado/Ragni/MacDermot), "Frank Mills"
SONG: I think it’s too easily forgotten how hard U2 rocked in their prime.
LYRICS: Bruce Springsteen, "My Father's House"
SONG: Paul Simon has always been an old soul, so is it any surprise that he only seems to have gotten better with age? This, from his overlooked 2011 masterwork So Beautiful or So What, is a perfect gem of a tune.
LYRICS: Prince, "The Ballad of Dorothy Parker"
SONG: Satie had 2 basic modes: limpid piano miniatures a la the gymnopedies and gnossiennes and wild, prankish capers with absurd titles. “Je te veux” is something else entirely: a passionate chanson, here sung by Japanese countertenor Yoshikazu Mera.
